Hallo, and welcome.

So you may wonder, what is going on here. What on earth is a Woolly Weaverbyrd? Good questions.

Well, what is going on is very simple. I enjoy spinning and creating batts, but knitting, no not so much. I love weaving, but how many blankets do I need? Sadly I need to make space. Space to live in and possibly cut the removal costs…..

Thus i’m selling my stock, but don’t worry you can read my blog without buying.

Why Woolly Weaverbyrds? Well many years ago before the internet was a thing (1991 ) a friend and I tried starting a craft business. I moved and neither of us knew what we were doing. We called ourselves Weaverbirds. My friend died some years ago and I still miss her every day. Weaverbirds, as a name now belongs to at least two businesses. In the mean time i’ve become a spinner with a hoarding problem . Woolly, is for the fact this is about wool and the Weaverbyrds- spelt with a y - is to honour my friend.

What do I do, and what do I have? I spin. Sometimes I spin sock yarn, so it does have nylon/acrylic in it. For those who don’t know, you need at least 20% non-wool in socks to stand up to the wear. Sock yarn is the only time my wool will ever be not 100% pure wool. I do occasionally spin alpaca, but not often.

My preference is for primitive breeds. - Expect posts on breeds with pictures of the preparation for spinning, the spinning and finally, the finished skeins ready for sale.

I also enjoy dyeing wool wonderful colours.

Due to ‘bad’ knees, my method of spinning is on one of two electric spinning wheels. Due to arthritis in my hands, a drum carder is used, not hand carders.- Again, expect pictures. Some days I can do very little.

What is ready for sale will be listed with pictures and prices. Prices will always include UK postage.

In the mean time, I’m going to be busy learning how to blog, build a website, use Instagram and anything else that might pop up..
